Bio

I am Steve Miller, Associate Director of Admissions Operations at University of Colorado Colorado Springs. I have been in my current position since the fall of 2016 and have been at UCCS since early 2012. I have an MBA and nearly 30 years of effective and progressively responsible management experience in higher education and a solid understanding and knowledge of enrollment management business practices.  I believe my leadership style is to lead by example, provide inspiration, vision, and direction.  I believe in ensuring a flexible and equipped work environment where employees feel empowered to think bigger, be creative, innovative, take risks, and excel in their job.

I like to cultivate continuous improvement, explore new practices, exercise innovative thinking, fuel creativity, implement value-added technology, and celebrate successes as they are achieved.  I enjoy the challenges associated with finding solutions to functional requirements, analyzing trends and issues, determining how to best solve operational and procedural problems, experimenting, and exploring new ideas, or recreating proven best practices to streamline processes and increase efficiency.  I try to always have a “we can do that” mentality and deliver value that will foster institutional excellence and ultimately result in student success.

My current experience has challenged all of those philosophies mentioned above in implementing our CRM and new admissions processing system at UCCS. This has been a very challenging implementation that included many frustrations, many times of working on an unreliable, unstable system, and dealing with many frustrated university team members and external constituents. We are now making much positive progress in stabilizing the system and creating a reliable system and we do have some hope that this CRM will work as desired.

I look forward to the many different opportunities that HEUG has to offer to collaborate with colleagues across the country in the workings of the different CRM systems.  I hope our experience within HEUG will help us all move forward the necessary solution options that we all share with one another.
