Bio

Roger has been involved with higher education throughout most of his professional life. Originally from California, Roger completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley and his MA and PhD at New York University. While working on his Ph.D. dissertation, Roger taught at Emory and Duke universities where he also served as an advisor for undergraduates

After completing his Ph.D., he became an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University (Columbus, OH).  He then moved to Israel in 1996 where he worked for a foundation for the city of Jerusalem as a grant writer and project manager.

In 1998, Roger returned to Duke University as the inaugural director of the Freeman Center for Jewish Life (Hillel).  He also served as an undergraduate advisor and instructor of Hebrew.  Following a short stunt in fundraising and teaching high school, Roger became a full-time undergraduate academic advisor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008, where he rose to Senior Advisor and then Assistant Dean of Academic Advising.

After over eight years in Academic Advising, Roger transitioned to the Office of the University Registrar at UNC-CH as an assistant registrar.  Today he is Senior Assistant Registrar for Graduation, Reporting and Special Projects.  In these roles, Roger successfully completed programming  the Academic Advisement module in PeopleSoft which resulted in undergraduate graduation clearance moving from paper to clearance via the automated degree audit (known as the Tar Heel Tracker at UNC-CH).  The updated Academic Advisement includes a new undergraduate general education curriculum implemented in fall 2022, and data for student-athlete academic eligibility.  Currently, he and his team are engaged in a project to bring the Tar Heel Tracker/degree audit to graduate and professional programs.

Roger also manages all data requests for student academic records, including FOIA requests.  His team provides student data for a variety of university business needs and works closely with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, the College of Arts and Sciences and various academic and student-services units on campus.

With 14+ years of experience at UNC-CH and using PeopleSoft, Roger works on various projects to support excellence, improve the student experience, and provide data for decision makers at the University.

Roger has lived in Durham, NC for over 20 years where he raised his wonderful son.  He is an avid bike rider, traveler and border collie dog owner.  With near-native fluency in modern Hebrew, he has lived in Israel and visits there as often as possible.
